Gold/first place went to "Team Red! Teams Members: Tyler Childs-Villeneuve, Craig Mackenzie & Thomas Lijnse
This past weekend, the ISA Edmonton Student Section held our 2nd ISA Student Competition.
A total of 24 students from the University of Calgary, SAIT, University of Alberta and NAIT participated. The students had a blast! Over the course of two days they not only learnt more about instrumentation and applying these skills, they also developed new friendships and learned how to build working relationships.
Here's an overview of what the Student Competition entailed:
Day 1: We held a mixer; students designed their own team t-shirts and participated in a “Photo Treasure Hunt” (the objective was find the listed objects around NAIT Campus and take a “selfie” with it). Later that same day, a training session was provided by instructors at NAIT lead by Allan McIntosh. We ended the day with dinner and drinks at Kelly's Pub on 104 St near the brand new ICE District and Rogers Place!
Day 2: The competition began, students were expected to complete the their tasks using the knowledge they obtained from the training session the day before. The mechatronic setup used for training and the competition was provided by Shell Manufacturing Unit, this unit was modified by a team of instructors from NAIT for the competition.
The ISA Edmonton Student Section would like to thank NAIT for allowing us to host this event at NAIT, also to SAIT, U of C & U of A for allowing their students to participate, and a HUGE thank you to all the NAIT instructors for volunteering their time for this event - it would not have been possible without your dedication. With special recognition to Allan McIntosh and Aaron Boser for spending late nights at the lab to ensure the event went as smoothly as possible.
